Councilor Ayanna Pressley holds Story Hour On Saturday March 23, 2013 at Mattapan Library!

Councilor Ayanna Pressley is holding a Story Hour for children this Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Mattapan Public Library located at 1350 Blue Hill Avenue Mattapan, MA 02126. It is a Story Hour for children where the councilor will be reading children's books in honor of Women's History Month starting at 10:30 AM. Parents and adults are welcome to join as well! 
Ayanna Pressley was elected to the Boston City Council on November 3, 2009. Pressley, the only woman in a field of 15 candidates, earned one of four At-Large spots on the city's 13-member council with nearly 42,000 votes. After being sworn in on January 4, 2010 she became the first woman of color to serve in the 100-year history of the Boston City Council! Please come out and attend this wonderful event.  

P.A.C.E Black Heritage Celebration on Sunday, March 17th, 2013!

P.A.C.E. aims to encourage young people to achieve by recognizing the value of education, and by embracing their cultural heritage as people of African descent. P.A.C.E. programs and projects engage young people to be advocates, to be leaders and to be a part of the greater effort in making a difference in their education, development and overall achievement. P.A.C.E. is located at the Mattahunt Community Center in Mattapan. The program serves students from ages 5-17. Applications for Summerworks Program 2013 will be due THIS Friday, March 15, 2013!Please pass this information along if you know any or anyone with youth 14-21 in search of summer employment. Free Fitness Classes At The YMCA All Month!

Mayor Thomas M. Menino partners with Boston Moves for Health to continue his initiative to improve the health and wellness of residents of Boston by offering four weeks of free classes at YMCA locations across the city! During the four weeks the YMCA of Greater Boston will provide two dozen free classes from boxing to Zumba and also a class for the seniors as well.

At this event you will learn options that can accommodate cultural, ethnic, traditional, and personal preferences, food cost, availability, and health concerns that all impact food choices. MassDOT RDM Study Committee Meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2013!

MassDOT will be hosting a meeting as part of the RDM (Roxbury/Dorchester/Mattapan) Study Committee on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00PM-8:00PM at the Grove Hall Community Center (51 Geneva Avenue). This is a very important meeting for the community.  
This is an opportunity for us to come and share our input as well as review the RDM study recommendations. We are being given the ability to help craft a collective strategy so many voices attending is critical to this meeting. YMSS Hosts The Foundation of Success On Saturday March 9, 2013

Young Men's Success Series will be hosting The Foundation to Success on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Reggie Lewis Center located at 1350 Tremont Street Boston, MA 02120 from 9:30AM to 12:00PM. Wayne Budd, Senior Counsel for Goodwin Procter will be guest speaking at this event. 
The Young Men's Success Series hosts monthly events are designed to give young men the necessary skills and perspective to effectively build a successful life. The Young Men's Success Series has been taking place in the Roxbury community, but will soon expand to the Mattapan Community on Saturday mornings as well. Mattapan Food & Fitness Monthly Meeting Held On March 12, 2013!

The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition (MFCC) draws on the wonderful ethnic and cultural diversity of the Mattapan community to promote a healthy living environment, with a focus on access to healthy foods and the promotion of physical fitness for all ages.
The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition Monthly Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:00PM at the Mildred Avenue Community Center located at 5 Mildred Avenue, Mattapan, MA  02126.  This month's meeting will consist of special guests Judy Lieberman of Brookwood Community Farm and Jamiah Tappin from the Boston Alliance for Community Health.
