Girls Leadership Summit at Northeastern University on Saturday, March 30, 2013

The Girls Leadership summit is a free annual event put together for girls ages 11-15 at Northeastern University. The event will take place at the Curry Student Center located at 346 Huntington Avenue Boston, MA from 10:00AM-2:00PM. Through interactive workshops, roundtable discussions, entertainment, presentations and a resource fair, girls will gain access to information and resources focused on these areas: Safety - dating violence, crime, harassment, self-defense; Self-esteem - media images, sexuality, empowerment; Community Engagement - mentorships, community service and volunteer opportunities; Academics & Career Development - academic support, career exploration, advocacy.  > Read more

New Applications For Brooke Mattapan Charter School Approaching March 4th Deadline

State Representative Linda Dorcena Forry's Community Forums Moves to Night!

On Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 6:00PM at the Mattahunt Community Center, Representative Linda Dorcena Forry will be hosting a meeting about crime and ongoing efforts and response to recent challenges to the Commonwealth's criminal justice system. Some guest speakers at this event will be the Secretary of Public Safety & Security Andrea Cabral, and Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis will be in attendance. All are welcomed to join! 

I Know I Can Hosts 1st Annual Basketball Tournament TODAY At Mattahunt Community Center!

I Know I Can (IKIC) is an innovative, highly recommended enrichment and athletic development program for students in greater Boston. IKIC is a program under P.A.C.E Inc. Straight A's Initiative, design to help students who are struggling with academics and behavioral issues. The students are offered an opportunity to rebuild themselves in a positive manner. With approximately 200 participants, this program is about not giving up on yourself, even through the many obstacles our youth face.
IKIC is holding their first tournament today Wednesday, February 20th, 2013 at 2:00PM at the Mattahunt Community Center on 100 Hebron Street Mattapan, MA 02126. This is an opportunity for children 13 and under to play basketball. If you have time come out and support! 4th Annual Action of the Youth Jobs Coalition Rally Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Faneuil Hall!

Youth Jobs Coalition is made up of organizations from all over such as Boston, Lynn, Gloucester, Lowell, Chelsea, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford, Worcester, Springfield, Winchester, etc. In the past years the Youth Jobs Coalition (YLC) had organized and reversed a planned $4 million state cut that would have cost us 2400 jobs, organized and got a $3.75 million state funding increase in youth jobs funding, and organized  to help get $1 million in new state funding and committed 8 new companies to hire youth!

On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 Mattapan United's Computer Course held their end of the program celebration at the ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center on 535 River Street, Mattapan. 11 students received their certificate for completing the course that ran for 8 weeks for 12 hours each week.

The Boston Public Quartet hosts Valentine's Day Concert with Students from the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools

MusiConnects was formed by the Boston Public Quartet with the aim of using the transformative power of music to develop self expression, musicianship, and community cohesiveness. They hope that through their teaching, performance and other work to help bring together young people, musicians and family groups. MusiConnects is a non-profit arts education organization set up to offer people in the Mattapan and Roslindale areas the opportunity to participate on string instruments, attend performances by professional musicians and to access a wide network of people, resources and creative opportunities.
On Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00PM-7:00PM at the Mattapan Branch Library on 1350 Blue Hill Avenue Mattapan, MA 02126 the Boston Public Quartet hosts the Valentine's Day Concert with students from the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools. Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. Offering Computer Courses

Mattapan/Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. is offering computer courses to people in the community. Mattapan/Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. is a tuition free adult vocational technical school and job search center sponsored by the United Christians Fellowship Urban Ministry. Their mission is to open a door of vocational education opportunities to low or no income individuals who cannot afford the cost of a private career school and to create hope in our broken society.  
There are 4 different courses being offered by the center, no tuition only paying for registration and books. Please visit their website for more information about specific start dates and times. There are also limited $50 - $100 scholarships available through the United Christian Fellowship Urban Ministries for those who qualify.

ABCD SummerWorks Youth Program Applications Now Available

For over 45 years, ABCD has provided summer jobs to low-income youth throughout the Boston area. In the past three summers, SummerWorks provided over 5,000 Boston youth with a summer job at more than 500 partner worksites throughout the city. ABCD SummerWorks is more than a summer job. Participants receive guidance, job readiness and life skills training that teach about resume writing, financial education, conflict resolution, and workplace etiquette.
Applications are now available for the SummerWorks program for Summer 2013 at the following website: Please bring required documents to ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center at 535 River Street Mattapan, MA 02126.
