Fairmount Greenway Meeting TONIGHT Wednesday, May 29, 2013!

Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition (MFFC) and Boston Nature Area Network (BNAN) will be hosting a community meeting tonight Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center located at 535 River Street Mattapan, MA 02126.  

 

Join us tonight for a presentation and community discussion on design plans for the Fairmount Greenway along Edgewater Drive. A light dinner will be served as well. I hope to see you all there and bring a friend. 
 
 
 
 

13th Annual Haitian-American Unity Parade Celebrated In Mattapan

On Sunday May 19, 2013 at 12:00PM on Blue Hill Avenue, the Haitian Americans United, Inc. (HAU) held their 13th annual Haitian-American Unity Parade. Residents came out to celebrate their heritage and share it with the rest of the community.

Foreclosure Prevention Workshops Throughout Boston Held By ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center

ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center's team of experienced counselors are traveling around the Boston area to offer assistance to residents trying to reduce their mortgage payments. 
 

Counselors are offering different times and dates for workshops, but will all be held at an ABCD branch nearest you. See flyer for more details and spread the word about this free event.

FREE Computer Class Training for Youth!

ABCD Mattapan Service Center will be offering FREE computer class trainings at 535 River Street Mattapan, MA 02126 for youth ages 16-21. 

 

The trainings will help youth develop skills for education and employment goals. The class will take place for 6 weeks beginning July 8th. If interested or know of youth interested in participating in the program please pre-register by Wednesday, June 19, 2013 because space is limited.

Anthony D. Perkins Community Center Announces Open Registration and Launch of Summer Programming

The Anthony D. Perkins Community Center announces open registration and the launch of summer programming!  Several programs are available for all ages.  
 
Beginning June 29, Boston's Next Top Model and Boys of Today...Men of Tomorrow will run for 8 weeks, every Saturday.  Both programs are gender-specific, designed to build self confidence and social awareness.  Participants should register by June 20 to ensure accurate sizes for shirts.  
 
Beginning May 10, families can join in the fun during Variety Fridays - Free Family Fun Every Friday night! : Movie Nights; Karaoke Nights; Pool Parties; Talent Shows; and Carnival Nights!  Affordable refreshments and free fun!!  Our daily Summer Day Program begins Monday, July 1 for ages 5 through 13.  Lastly, Momma and Me Swim Classes are available all year!  For details, call 617.635.5146 or send an email to nancy.rousseau@cityofboston.gov!  Hope to see you there!!!

Head Start Celebration on Friday, May 31, 2013

Join Head Start children, parents, and other supporters of the organization on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Boston Commons from 10:00AM to 12:00PM to discuss how budget cuts will have an impact on the children in the program. Tell a friend, bring a friend, and help defend a beneficial program to thousands of children. 
 
ABCD Head Start and Children's Services is the largest early childhood education program in Boston. They have established themselves as national experts in the field of early childhood development with a proven track record of serving low-income families.

Boston Redevelopment Authority Requests Nominations For Working Advisory Group

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) is seeking nominations for a Working Authoring Group (WAG) as part of the Fairmount Indigo Planning Initiative. The Blue Hill Avenue/Cummins Highway Improvement Plan process will begin in July 2013 and run for approximately 6 to 8 months. Mayor Thomas Menino hopes to appoint 8 to 12 members to the WAG assisting with the development plans for the Blue Hill Avenue/Cummins Highway MBTA station area. The WAG will assist with plans for economic development, business district improvements, public realm improvements, and open spaces in Mattapan.

YOFES Offers STD Prevention Workshops Starting Today Wednesday, May 14, 2013!

Youth and Family Enrichment Services (YOFES) is collaborating with the SPARK Center to host a series of workshops on STD, STI, and HIV/AIDS Prevention from May 14th -May 23rd on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30PM-8:30PM at the Youth and Family Enrichment Services Inc. located at 1234 Hyde Park Ave. Suite 104 Hyde Park, MA 02136. They encourage all to participate and will have a specific interest in Haitian/Haitian American community. $75 in gift certificates will be awarded upon completion of ALL workshop sessions. Dinner will also be served.   
 
YOFES is committed to empowering our economically  disadvantaged communities with a range of high-value  educational services that strengthen our families. YOFES works to  increase parents' knowledge and understanding of the different stages of child development and to provide them with the communication and nurturing skills that strengthen  family relations.
