The Boston Public Quartet hosts Valentine's Day Concert with Students from the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools

MusiConnects was formed by the Boston Public Quartet with the aim of using the transformative power of music to develop self expression, musicianship, and community cohesiveness. They hope that through their teaching, performance and other work to help bring together young people, musicians and family groups. MusiConnects is a non-profit arts education organization set up to offer people in the Mattapan and Roslindale areas the opportunity to participate on string instruments, attend performances by professional musicians and to access a wide network of people, resources and creative opportunities.
 
On Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00PM-7:00PM at the Mattapan Branch Library on 1350 Blue Hill Avenue Mattapan, MA 02126 the Boston Public Quartet hosts the Valentine's Day Concert with students from the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools. Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. Offering Computer Courses

Mattapan/Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. is offering computer courses to people in the community. Mattapan/Greater Boston Technology Learning Center, Inc. is a tuition free adult vocational technical school and job search center sponsored by the United Christians Fellowship Urban Ministry. Their mission is to open a door of vocational education opportunities to low or no income individuals who cannot afford the cost of a private career school and to create hope in our broken society.  
 
There are 4 different courses being offered by the center, no tuition only paying for registration and books. There are also limited $50 - $100 scholarships available through the United Christian Fellowship Urban Ministries for those who qualify.

ABCD SummerWorks Youth Program Applications Now Available

For over 45 years, ABCD has provided summer jobs to low-income youth throughout the Boston area. In the past three summers, SummerWorks provided over 5,000 Boston youth with a summer job at more than 500 partner worksites throughout the city. ABCD SummerWorks is more than a summer job. Participants receive guidance, job readiness and life skills training that teach about resume writing, financial education, conflict resolution, and workplace etiquette.
 
Applications are now available for the SummerWorks program for Summer 2013 at the following website:https://www.summerworks.net/. Please bring required documents to ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center at 535 River Street Mattapan, MA 02126. Zeta Nu Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Hosts Annual Financial Aid and Scholarship Fair

During this time of year high school seniors are stressed out about college acceptance letters and financial aid and their parents begin thinking about how they can start planning for their child's college tuition. Zeta Nu Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated plans on assisting these families by hosting their annual Financial Aid and Scholarship Fair on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the BYCF Tobin Community Center located on 1481 Tremont Street in Roxbury, from 10:00AM-3:00PM.  
 
Zeta Nu Sigma will be featuring workshops such as alternative college options, Financial Aid 101, saving money for college, and high school athletes to college athletes. There will also be discussions aboutscholarship opportunities and college access programs so that young people are aware of resources in and around the city of Boston. This is a free event open to everyone and would be very beneficial to both high school seniors and their parents. Look out for Lead Organizer Karleen Porcena who will appear on the panel of college alums! 

Mattapan United’s Housing Information Fair Has Positive Impact on Community

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013 Mattapan United's Housing Action Group hosted a Housing Information Fair at the Old Mattapan Library located at10 Hazelton Street Mattapan, MA 02126. The event was a huge success. Over 100 residents participated. Organizations from the community gathered together to provide information for the residents of Mattapan which included Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, NSTAR, Renew Boston, ABCD, CFS Realty, and Citizens Bank. 
 
Reverend Zenetta Armstrong, co-chair of Mattapan United's Housing Action Group says,"I was pleased to see the various organizations represented and the amount of people in the community that joined to respond to the need. People were really happy to receive the information, which was shared with me during the event. With more time and planning it should be done annually with even more organizations. The space was perfect for the event."

Mattapan Square Main Street Hosts Annual Meeting Discussing 2012 Accomplishments

On Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 8:00AM,Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Mattapan Square Main Streets (MSMS) invites you to attend their Annual Inaugural Meeting at the William E. Carter Post #16 on 1531 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126. This meeting will discuss the accomplishments and milestones for the year of Mattapan Square Main Streets. The keynote speaker for the meeting will be Reginald A. Nunnally, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office.
 
There will be networking and continental breakfast at 8:00AM and the event promptly beginning at 8:30AM. Admission to the meeting is free, but a $10 donation per person is encouraged. Mattapan United Hosts Housing Fair Tuesday February 5th 6:00PM-8:00PM

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013 Mattapan United's Housing Action Group, will be hosting a Housing Information Fair for the Mattapan Community in order to increase housing resources to our community. The event will be held at the Old Mattapan Library, which is located on 10 Hazelton Street Mattapan, MA 02126 from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
 
The Housing Information Resource Fair is a great way to learn about preventing your home from being foreclosed through foreclosure counselors, making your home energy efficient with onsite fuel assistance, how renters can get support through the eviction process and shelter placement process through the ABCD housing sources, services available after foreclosure, options for opening different bank accounts through Citizens Bank and ways for helping pay your mortgage, and resources from the City of Boston for tenants, homeowners, and those whose want to purchase a home. There will be something for everyone. Please come out and tell a neighbor.
