On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, B-3 held their monthly meeting at the Joseph Lee School at 155 Talbot Avenue Mattapan, MA 02124. This month's topic of discussion was human trafficking which included guest speaker Sergeant Detective Donna Gavin, a 30-year old veteran of the Boston Police Department and expert on human trafficking. She presented on the various reasons as to why people take part in human trafficking, the increase in this practice and resources available to help.
"Usually when you think of human trafficking you think of abroad, but it is happening in our homes by our own kids by our own people. Most women doing human trafficking are at the end of the road. There is an increase because of the internet and the demand by men," Gavin states.
District B3 meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00PM. The meetings give residents a chance to meet their police officers, talk about crime and other happenings in the community, and connect with neighbors and elected officials.
